The unit is very light and quite strong, at least for the units that go 40" from wall to edge. The panels will collect some water into their rib channels. I recommend plugging them up with a dab of outdoor silicone. They will crack if you get some unusual heavy hail storms. The mounting wall screws are only for mounting to brick or concrete, you will need to purhase some large wood screws to mount into the wood panel that is typically under your vinyl or aluminum siding. You will also have to cut out a bracket shape through your siding as it is usually not flat to the under-wall board. Tracing the bracket on paper to make a pattern will let you mark the shape on your sideing, then you can use a rotary cutting tool to cut out the siding so the bracket will mount directly flat to the structural wall board. Remember you will need to add silicone sealant around the top and sides of the bracket against the wall. Also you will need to add sealant along the top of the awning where it meets the siding.
I loved the price, knew it was plastic. Very Sturdy once put together properly. Of course it can not be waterproof until it has been caulked properly, you are putting pieces together, common sense tells you silicone is necessary before installing.
We installed on an old mobile home that is a rental. We had to improvise with home made spacers of treated wood but once installed and adjusted the door clears it and it is a perfect awning. I bought my own 7 inch screws and washers and believe it is solid. Great price. Easy to put together with 2 people.
Little trouble mounting them took 2 people
We love it and have bought three since the plastic panels cannot be purchased separately.
This is the second one of these we've purchased. We replaced a single with a double. I think the specs on both indicate the holes are the same spacing but, no. Maybe our first one was old enough that the design was changed I don't know, but I had to drill some new holes. The tinting definitely helps with heat from the sun. We use it over our back door on our manufactured home and it installs ok with lag screws, not the anchors and screws that came with it. My only complaint is that the self tapping screws are difficult to get in without stripping the Phillips head but we got it done. I would recommend this product and would buy it again.
